UN Commission on the Status of Women



Changing Destinations in collaboration with Jasiri Girls Empowerment Group was invited to lead a delegation of women and girls to the 64th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW64) in New York March 9 - 11, 2020. Due to concerns around the spread of the coronavirus. all activities have been suspended until further notice. On Tuesday, March 10th, the Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) instead hosted an online panel discussion for women leaders. Panelists from the United States, India, Nicaragua, and the United Kingdom convened the "Women's Contribution to Culture of PeaceOnline Panel Discussion on the role of meaningful participation of women to foster inclusive societies, share several successful women led peace initiatives, and present best practices from the field where women peacebuilders made a positive change. Executive Director, Sasha Butler was invited to share her perspective and experience on the “The role of education for young women leaders to create a sustained youth participation in peacebuilding” as an expert of global citizenship education programs.

The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women. "Across the world, young women continue to face gender-based discrimination, marginalization, and violence, including unequal access to education and opportunities for leadership and participation. The new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development must deliver equal gains for youth. The force and inspiration of our youngest leaders are critical drivers for accelerating progress on sustainable development and gender equality."

The JWF and is an international civil society organization dedicated to culture of peace, human rights, and sustainable development. Promoting gender equality and gender mainstreaming of the Sustainable Development Goals are among the priority areas of the JWF. Since 2013, the JWF have organized 25 parallel events in partnership with the UN Member States, UN Agencies, and CSOs to share knowledge on the gender disparity with other stakeholders, build partnerships and develop policy recommendations for a positive social change in women`s and girls’ empowerment.
