Changing Destinations Fundraiser 2019

Changing Destinations: Journey to Excellence hosted the second annual awards ceremony and fundraising in celebration of education leaders in Maryland who go above and beyond impacting youth in a positive way, especially in the areas of leadership development and global citizenship. This year's honorees were Minister David Heiliger, Dr. Cheryl West, and Dr. Reginald and Deborah Freeman.

For the past 15 years David Heiliger has been serving his community through mentoring teenagers and training others to do the same. Working with students of various backgrounds, cultures, and in a variety of contexts he has been committed to building up the leaders of this rising generation of world changers. Combined with his commitment to young people, David is working to encourage the values of racial reconciliation and diversity of all kinds as a consultant with The BridgeLeader Network and currently serves as the Student Ministries Director at Bridgeway Community Church.

Dr. West is a scholar-practitioner with more than 30 years of leadership, management & consulting experience. Her hands-on, practical & applied knowledge has been acquired through her work as HR director in government & nonprofit, director of administration & finance in a state chapter of an international organization, head of administration & management, director (s) of training & compliance & education in early childhood education. As a consultant, she has worked with a variety of non-profits, education, small business, entrepreneurs, faith, and community organizations.

Dr. Reginald is a college graduate receiving 2 Master of Arts Degrees in Counseling and Human Resource Development. Dr. Deborah received her Master’s Degree in Missiology. Both Reginald and Deborah have achieved their Doctorate Degree in Divinity from Saint Thomas Christian University in Jacksonville, Florida and are retired from the Armed Force of our country serving in the United States Air Force and United States Army for a combined total of 42 years. They are the founders of “A Cross the Nations International Ministries”, and the founders and owners of “North Peninsula Guardians” Youth Football & Cheerleading Organization.

We also honored several amazing youth for their outstanding leadership and global citizenship efforts. The youth honorees include Selah Holston, Christian Leonard, Malia Collins, Ra'ael Kelley, and Jonathan “Muchiri” Mbugua. Special duests performances by Lejerian Williams and Layla Dawit.
