“Changing Destinations: Journey To Excellence, Inc.” Book scholarships are designed for at-risk high school seniors who are planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college or university, or a technical/vocational institution. The Book Scholarship Program is to assist students with the high cost of textbooks & study materials.

 

The Book Scholarship program is publicized each year via our website and social media; high school guidance counselors, announcements and publications; public access television, local area businesses, local community centers including public libraries.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the book scholarship:

 

• Residents of Jessup or Howard County

• High School Senior (accepted into a two/four year accredited college or university)

• Demonstrate participation and leadership in school and/or community volunteerism

• 2.7 or higher Grade Point Average

 

Award Criteria

Awards will be based on the following criteria:

 

• A completed application with high school transcript (5 points)

• GPA 2.7 minimum (5 points)

• Financial need (50 points)

• 2 Minute Video or 500 Word Essay on the Importance of Higher Education (10 points)

• Two Letters of Recommendation (10 points)

• Leadership impact on school and/or community (20 points)

 

The Changing Destinations: Journey To Excellence, Inc. Book Scholarship is a one-time award amount of $500. Awards may be used in any year, but are non-renewable. Awards are paid in one installment, and mailed to the student’s home address at least 2 weeks prior to the upcoming semester. Checks are payable to the recipient.
