International Parent Conference

In February, 2019, Changing Destinations established a global school partnership with Collins American International Academy (CAIA) Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. The purpose of the partnership is to bring resources to help teachers and administrators implement global citizenship education into the school curriculum. CAIA has been formed to deliver the best of Nigerian and American education to primary and secondary school students. As part of the agreement, Ucheenna Ndubuisi, Founder and Director of CIAIA, organized a parent conference entitled "Empowering Children to Succeed in the 21st Century."

Executive Director, Sasha E. Butler was invited to Nigeria as the keynote speaker for the conference. The half-day event commenced as an open dialogue designed to discuss challenges and barriers parents face raising children in interconnected and interdependent global society. Ms. Butler shared culturally relevant strategies and tools to help parents empowering their children to succeed.

Many of the parents commented on Ms. Butler's sensitivity and respect for parenting dynamics in a different culture. They also appreciated the insight she provided on shared universal parenting goals and values.
