GLOBAL CITIZENS SUMMIT

The 2020 Youth Global Citizens Summit brings together 20 youth locally and internationally who are making a difference in their communities.


Youth from Nigeria and Uganda will collaborate with youth from the New York and Washington, DC Metro area. During the week-long summit, international youth will attend classes with their peers from the United States. Youth will also visit cultural sites, local businesses, social change organizations, and government agencies. On September 23, 2020, youth will attend the United Nations General Assembly Conference in New York City.


Training workshops will be conducted focusing on global competence, advocacy, and innovation as it relates to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Utilizing technology, youth will return home and continue working collaboratively with their peers to complete a year-long, project addressing a solution to real-world issue.

Application Requirements

 

  • Applicants must submit a recommendation letter from a teacher, school administrator, or community leader to be considered for the YELD Global Citizens Scholarship.

  •  Guidelines for Recommendation letter​

  • Applicants must submit a 2-3-minute video​

  • ​​Applicants must also respond to two short answer questions, up to 250 words each (If selected for the second round​).

  • Applications close Sunday, May 31, 2020 11:59 PM EDT.

  •  Link to application will be provided for applications who move to the  second round.

 

Trip Includes

 

  • Pre- and post-trip learning sessions (virtually and in-person)

  • Orientation

  • Training Sessions and guest speakers

  • Entertainment

  • All trip-related meals

  • Lodging and ground transportation during trip

 

Eligibility Requirements

 

  • Ages 12-18 (by time of application)

  • Limited past overseas travel

Note: Students from low-income households and those with limited or not travel exposure will be given preference in the selection process.

The YELD Global Citizens Academy utilizes research and the SCORE BIG approach to equip students with the knowledge and tool essential for success in school, the workplace and life."

Youth from minority and underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
