Changing Destinations: Journey To Excellence, Inc. provides quality, caring and success-oriented in-school, after school, weekend and summer mentoring and leadership programs for Black, African American, Latino, Asian, and other middle and high school students facing barriers to success. Our success model is based on four key components:
MENTORSHIP & LEADERSHIP
Mentors play a key role in helping young people live up to their academic, emotional, and social potential. Mentoring provides “Real World” experiences which provide the motivation necessary for success in school, the workplace and in life.
The Internet has brought with it the need for more resources and tools to help students build cultural awareness skills. Students, who understand their own cultural heritage, develop a healthy appreciation for other groups.
Research shows that students with good social skills and who participate in extracurricular activities do better 10 years out from school than classmates with similar test scores but fewer social skills and less participation in extracurricular activities.
Young people need guidance to successfully transition into college or the workforce. Students who take advantage of a variety of educational, community and college recourses retain skills and lay a strong foundation for the coming school year.
