Changing Destinations Fundraiser 2019

Changing Destinations: Journey to Excellence hosted the second annual awards ceremony and fundraising in celebration of education leaders in Maryland who go above and beyond impacting youth in a positive way, especially in the areas of leadership development and global citizenship. This year's honorees were Minister David Heiliger, Dr. Cheryl West, and Dr. Reginald and Deborah Freeman. For the past 15 years David Heiliger has been serving his community through mentoring teenagers and training others to do the same. Working with students of various backgrounds, cultures, and in a variety of contexts he has been committed to building up the leaders of this rising generation of world changers.

Global Citizenship Academy Launches in Owerri, Nigeria

Executive Director, Sasha E. Butler and Benson Mbaike, Teacher and Media Director discusses the importance of Global Citizenship Education in the classroom at Collins American International Academy in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. Ms. Butler was invited to a to conduct week-long global education workshops for students, parents, teachers and school administrators. The sessions focused on the United Nations 2030 17 Sustainable Goals, Global Citizenship Education, and Global Competence. Student learning more about the Global Citizenship Academy. International Parent Conference

In February, 2019, Changing Destinations established a global school partnership with Collins American International Academy (CAIA) Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. The purpose of the partnership is to bring resources to help teachers and administrators implement global citizenship education into the school curriculum. CAIA has been formed to deliver the best of Nigerian and American education to primary and secondary school students. Empowering Teachers for the 21st Century Classroom

Executive Director, Sasha E. Butler, conducted a 2-day professional development workshop for teachers at Collins American International Academy (CAIA) in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. The focus of the training was to equip teachers and school administrators effective skills for the 21st century classroom. The interactive session included activities to help educator develop the global competencies critical for designing curriculum and facilitating learning around the global citizenship education framework.
